Vallecas was formerly a village near to Madrid. At present, it is a suburb of Madrid City. Vallecas is a neighborhood of Madrid and composes two districts. One is Puente de Vallecas, having 240,917 population, and another is Villa de Vallecas, having 65,162 population. This neighborhood is even known for working class inhabitants who are proud of their district and call it familiarly as Vallekas or Valle del Kas. In the last years, this district has experienced a significant enhancement with 25,000 new flats and houses which are known as PAU de Vallecas or Ensanche de Vallecas, the biggest new areas in Madrid.
