Owing to its more than a 100-year-old tryst with royalty, San Sebastián is an extremely tasteful beach resort with none of the trimmings and gaudiness that are so common among resorts these days. The city has three wonderful beaches out of which La Concha beach is considered to be the most beautiful in Europe.
The Paseo de Muelle is an excellent area for shopping; here you can pick up textiles woven in the typical Basque fashion. The narrow streets of the Parte Vieja are packed with many bars and restaurants that truly come alive at night. Visitors can also indulge in some fishing or yachting at the harbour. The Naval Museum and the Aquarium are also major attractions.
There are many monuments to explore in the city, such as the nineteenth century Cathedral, the Castillo de la Santa Cruz de la Mota and the Basilica of Santa Maria del Coro.
San Sebastián holds many fiestas and celebrations all year round. The Carnival is held in the month of February.
