Santiago de Compostela: Attractions and more...

Santiago de Compostela has been declared a World Heritage City. It has been an important pilgrimage spot and cultural capital for hundreds of years. The city even has its own unique architectural style.

There is more to this city than religion and buildings. Santiago de Compostela has a thriving university that attracts thousands of young students from all over the world, giving it a very lively atmosphere. It is also renowned for its cuisine and has one of the largest and tastiest varieties of sea-food.

The Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela is reputed to be the burial place of St James, the apostle. Construction of this magnificent edifice was started in 1075 under the reign of Alfonso VI of Castile. Every year, hundreds of pilgrims flock to the cathedral after completing the arduous pilgrimage of Camino de Santiago.

There are many other interesting monuments and museums in the city that have fascinating exhibits on its history and culture.
