Alicante: Attractions and more...
Alicante is one of the fastest-growing cities in Spain and is famous for its sandy beaches, palm trees and markets. Thousands of visitors come here every year to soak up the sun and spend time in one of the most beautiful cities along the Costa Blanca coast. There are also many opportunities for engaging in water sports. When in Alicante, don’t forget to sample Turrones, a honey and almond nougat that is a local speciality.
The beachfront has many long promenades where visitors and locals go for long, leisurely walks. Alicante is also home to many historical buildings and churches. The Castillo de Santa Barbara is situated high upon a cliff and provides a magnificent view of the harbour.
The festival of the Bonfires of Saint John is held every year during the summer solstice and is celebrated with great pomp and ceremony throughout Alicante. Another colourful festival that attracts many visitors is the Moros y Cristianos.
