Nordic Museum

Looming over the island of Djurgarden is a building you might mistake for a cathedral.  But the treasures it contains are decidely earthly.  It's the Nordic Museum.  Founded by Artur Hazelius (also the father of Skansen), the museum contains more than 1.5 million artifacts from the last 500 years of Scandinavian civilization. It has everything, from traditions to toys, and even trash!

Greet the large painted statue of King Gustav Vasa and stroll through the immense Great Hall before stepping back in time to see how different cultures have made their mark on Scandinavia.  Even see how they relaxed through the centuries in the housing exhibits. (All that walking can be tiresome, but please keep off the furniture!)
