Get to know the various inhabitants of the North — both the human and animal varieties — without leaving the city at Skansen, the world's oldest open-air museum, founded in 1891.

The 300,000-square meter exhibition includes a zoo filled with a variety of Nordic fauna; an aquarium with 200 exotic species; and models of a 19th-century town and traditional Sami camp.

Bring your little ones to meet Skansen's little ones in the children's zoo or learn how to run a farm.  No matter the time of year, there is some festival being celebrated, be it New Year's Eve fireworks or Walpurgis Night bonfires signaling the return of spring.

Put simply, there isn't much you can do in Sweden that you can't do at Skansen.
