Skeppsholmen isn't a big island, but it has a big personality. Formerly a military stronghold because of its location at the entrance to the Baltic Sea, it now is home to Stockholm's Museum of Modern Art, Architectural Museum and the avant-garde Teater Galeasen.
No matter your budget, you can find quality lodging on the island, with accomodations running from the youth hostel located on af Chapman, a former British naval ship, or the swanky Hotel Skeppsholmen, in a revitalized 17th-century building.
Bridges connect Skeppsholmen to Blasieholmen and the main part of the city to the north and the small historic island of Kastellholmen to the south. Every summer, Skeppsholmen plays host to the Stockholm Jazz Festival too!
