While visiting Bern, remember that the climate is extreme and one has to face hot summers and very cold winters, so do pack your clothes accordingly.
From the end of October till the end of March it would be sensible to carry warm woolen clothes as it snows in November and from April till October generally cool cotton clothes, though it might get cold at times.
Bern is a great place for a wide selection of shopping and the prices are affordable as well, so it would be better to carry limited items. An umbrella and digital camera will come in handy while visiting this city.
If you are planning to indulge in outdoor activities like hiking or skiing it would be ideal to carry the appropriate gear and boots.
Last but not the least always carry all the important documents relevant for visiting a foreign land such as the passport, airline ticket and others.
