The locals, especially shop-owners try to manipulate tourists for a small profit. A trick they use is to give you something else than what you were looking for and then mislead you to agree for a big deal. It mostly happens at the bus station especially while purchasing a bus card.
Most hotels in Lugano are located in Paradiso, a region known as a Red Light District. Visitors must ensure that their hotels are in the city centre. Paradiso is quite unsafe for women during night time as they might come across few unpleasant characters.
Beware of pedestrian crossings as well. The drivers do not slow down or stop for you. Beware of your personal belongings as there have been several instances of bags being stolen.
Before visiting any café or restaurant, it is advisable to check out the prices. It is also advisable not to travel alone especially in isolated areas during night time.
