Lucerne, capital of the Canton of Lucerne, on Lake Lucerne, is a main Swiss tourist destination in central Switzerland, where live nearly 70,000 people.
Lucern derives from an antique fishing village on the omonymous lake, where was founded a Benedectine Monastery, Saint Leodegar.
Following to the building of the railway through the Gotthard, the city of Lucern grew in importance up to become what it still is, a favourite tourist destination.
In the city is regularly organized an important summer festival for classical music, at the end of every summer.
Lucerne, which covers over 25 km2, is a lovely, lively small city, rich of culture and past traditions, ideal base to explore other important sights in Switzerland.
Lucern has long been a favorite tourist destination and, as a matter of fact, its economy is still largely based on tourism, though industry is a great income, too!
