If invited for a meal, it is usual to give unwrapped flowers to the hostess.
However, it is important to know that one should avoid giving red roses and chrysanthemums, as the latter are considered funeral flowers.

The city is known for its varied cuisine, especially fondue. Fondue is a delicious mixture of Vacherin cheese and Gruyère, melted with white wine and mixed with Kirsch, flour and garlic.

Tête de Moine and Emmental are other cheese specialties. Service charges are included in restaurants, cafes, bars and other services, hence additional tipping is not generally required.

The official currency used is the Swiss Franc (CHF). The currency exchange can be transacted at banks and train stations. The city also has ATMs easily available while credit cards such as MasterCard, Visa, Diners Club and American Express are widely accepted. The Swiss Franc, Pound Sterling and US Dollar cheques are accepted at banks, railway stations and airports.

However it is advisable to carry travellers cheques in Pounds Sterling to avoid additional exchange rate charges.
