General opinion:  Zermatt, located in the Swiss Alps, is famous among the tourists looking forward to mountaineering activities like skiing. It is mostly bounded by the lofty hills of Pennine Alps. The Matter Vispa flows through this beautiful city and is the main source of water. For adventurous activities like Hiking, Skiing and mountain climbing, visit the Matterhorn. People mainly flock here in huge numbers because of its association with the well-known chocolate, Toblerone, and that makes it a landmark spot in Switzerland. The view from here cannot be put into words. Don’t forget to check out the glacier ice palace ... More which features exquisite ice sculptures. Enjoy a ride on Gornergrat Bahn which provides an amazing view of whole of the city of Zermatt and its close-by areas. The train runs all-round the year catering to hikers during summers and skiers during winters. There is a great salad bar on the top of the hill and several shops worth a stop. To have the most panoramic view of the lovely snow-covered hills, glacier streams and waterfalls, I would suggest you to go to Hohbalmen, which has great hiking trails in the Alps to explore. For a family trip, Forest Fun Park, featuring zip lines with great obstacles. It can be a bit of a challenge but mostly is a full-filled destination.

Best Period to Go: Zermatt is best during the warm summer days and offers a variety of hikes and walks for the tourists. The best time to visit the city for sports enthusiasts is mid July to mid September. The best time is also early May if one is not skiing. At the time of March and April, the days are warmer and longer. Zermatt is popular for summer skiing and for winter ski season which lasts from late November to early May.

Not to miss:  Zermatt is a wonderland of snow and ice and well worth a visit even in summer. Visitors can go hiking and trekking, mountain biking, high-altitude tours, and even skiing in the highest summer ski area the Alps can offer. The surrounding mountains and valleys are rich in flora and fauna, and visitors may have the chance to catch a glimpse of more than 1000 alpine floral species.
As well as the well-signed walks beginning from the resort itself, railways take tourists into the high reaches of the mountains for altitude hiking and mountain climbing. The Zermatt Alpine ... More Centre is a great resource, offering training sessions, day tours, and glacier walks.
Winter transforms the resort into a wonderland of snow and ice, and the 313 km of runs include slopes for everyone, from complete beginners to those looking for a challenge. 74 transport options transport visitors to this huge selection of runs, where skiing, snowboarding, sledding and hiking are all popular amongst the crowds.
When you feel like relaxing indoors, Zermatt also has a Casino located at the Grand Hotel Zermatterhof, as well as a variety of restaurants and bars. There are also a number of galleries, showing paintings of the resort and its surroundings, exhibitions of contemporary artists, and of course, the mineral collection housed in the Zermatt schoolhouse.
Perhaps the most impressive sight though, and one that can be enjoyed year-round, is the Glacier Palace, a freezing cavern in the ice of Klein Matterhorn, at an altitude of 3820 metres. This natural hall offers tourists a unique perspective into snow and ice, and a chance to imagine what the world must have been like during the last ice age.

General opinion: Zermatt is located in the southwest of Switzerland, at an altitude of 1620 metres. This car-free resort offers amazing views of the surrounding snow-laden peaks, including the Matterhorn, the third highest peak in the Swiss Alps. The only means of transportation allowed in the resort are electric cars and horse-drawn sleighs and carriages.
There are 5500 permanent residents in Zermatt, although tourists increase the population greatly all year round. Since 2000, Zermatt has had its own television station, which broadcasts images of the hiking and skiing trails, as well as showing international news, community and tourist information, and movies.
