Tourist Guide Zermatt
Zermatt is located in the southwest of Switzerland, at an altitude of 1620
metres. This car-free resort offers amazing views of the surrounding snow-laden
peaks, including the Matterhorn, the third highest peak in the Swiss Alps. The
only means of transportation allowed in the resort are electric cars and horse-drawn
sleighs and carriages.
There are 5500 permanent residents in Zermatt, although tourists increase the
population greatly all year round. Since 2000, Zermatt has had its own television
station, which broadcasts images of the hiking and skiing trails, as well as
showing international news, community and tourist information, and movies.
