Ankara is a safe city during the day time.

However tourists, especially women, must take precautions while travelling alone.

In Ankara or any other city in Turkey it is not safe for women to travel alone. Many female travellers have complained about verbal or physical abuse in the city.

However, one can remain safe by taking simple precautions. Women should wear clothes that cover their whole body.

They must avoid deserted streets while walking. Going out after dark is not recommended for neither women nor men.

The roads in the city, except some busy roads, turn into places of crime after dark.

One may encounter pickpockets, alcoholics, muggers, beggars and many such risky people.

Ladies must ask to be seated in the family room when eating in a restaurant. Going alone to drink in public places is not advisable at all.

Taxis waiting at Ankara bus stops are known for fooling customers. Tourists must check for the word ‘GüNDüZ’ on the taxis.

These taxis run from 6 am to 12 pm. Taxis which have ‘SEHIR DISI’ on them, charge a tariff for outside the city borders. These should be avoided.
