Hierapolis was known as a sacred city in the past as it was believed to have been built by the God Apollo.
It is known as a World Heritage Site today and is popular among tourists for its ancient Romanian ruins, the magnificent white terraces of Pamukkale, its museum and a thermal sacred pool where one can enjoy a swim.
The hot springs in Hierapolis are known for their rich mineral value which is believed to have healing properties to cure various ailments.
Situated next to the ruins of Hierapolis are the Pamukkale terraces which are also known as the cotton castle owing to the white layers of calcium carbonate that form on the plateau due to the flow of the hot springs down the slopes.
The Pamukkale museum, situated nearby, has a huge collection of statues, relief’s, jewellery, coins, sarcophagi and other items
