Göreme is a town in Cappadocia in Turkey, nestled among the ‘fairy chimneys’ rock formations.
This historical town is located in a former volcanic zone and is a part of the Nevşehir Province in Central Anatolia.
The town of Göreme experiences extreme continental climatic conditions with less rainfall. The temperature ranges between 0.5°C (in winter) and 23°C (in summer).
Göreme is believed to have been first inhabited during the Roman period of Christianity. One can see and understand life during the early times by visiting the rock-cut churches and the underground cities here.
With a population of about 2,000 people, this town is largely dependant on agriculture, pottery, and weaving. Tourism has been shaping up as an industry in the recent past, owing to the natural richness of this terrain.
