The Galata Tower is known as the Christea Turris by the Megalos Pyrgos and the Genoese. This tower is located to the north side of the Golden Horn. It is one of the most striking landmarks in Istanbul and is huge cone shaped cylinder which dominates the skyline of the Galata side of the Golden Horn. It was built in 1348 as Christee Turris at the time of expansion of the Genoese colony in Constantinople.
