Like any other Turkish city, Izmir is also infamous for high taxi fares. Most of the tourists complain that they have been tricked by the cab drivers who ask for higher fares. It's much better to travel by the city buses if tourists want to save money.
There is a special shuttle bus service, “Havas” from the airport to the city centre. The city is comparatively safer than other Turkish cities. The people here are friendly and offer help to travellers.
However, the incidences of pickpockets and thefts are frequent in the city. One must stay alert while roaming around the city at night as it is highly unsafe.
Driving a vehicle in the city can be difficult for tourists. Drivers here are highly aggressive and inconsiderate, so, one must drive carefully.
Tourists must stay away from stray cats and dogs as animal bites can be highly detrimental to health.
