There are several sites near Marmaris which consist of ancient ruins and have gained historical importance over time.

The ancient ruins of Physkos can be viewed from the hills of Asrar which are in the northern part of Marmaris and one can see that the walls of the city, which date back to the Hellenistic period, are still undamaged.

The Loryma ruins which are situated forty kilometres from Marmaris, at the border of the Rhodes island, is an impressive structure with 9 towers that are rectangular in shape and built of smooth cut stonework.

The Amos ruins consist of a temple, statue pedestals and a hillside amphitheatre with side walls, seating area and a stage with 3 chambers.

The ruins of Erine which are to the southwest of Marmaris belong to the Roman and Hellenistic period.

There are several other ancient ruins as well, such as Euthenna, Bybassios, Saranda, Castabus and others.
