The region is home to the Stonehenge, a circular setting of standing stones that have come to be one of Britain’s most famous prehistoric landmarks and a World Heritage Site. The South West has more heritage sites like the Durdle Door (the country’s only natural World Heritage Site) in Jurassic Coast, and the city of Bath (home to Europe’s most famous architectural buildings and ruins including the Roman Baths, Bath Abbey and Pulteney Bridge). Places of interest include Swindon town, Wells and lively Wiltshire.
Glastonbury Festival is the world’s largest Greenfield music and performing arts festival. The Somerset Art Week in September is famous for showcasing art and cultural heritage, while the Dartmoor Folk Festival is a traditional event that attracts crowds from all over the country. Also be in town for the early-August Sidmouth Folk Week and the 25-year-old Weymouth Beach Volleyball Classic. |
