Best period to enjoy the city in full is summer, of course, though the many tourists which crowd its streets.
It is interesting to know that in the inner sites of the cliffs and below the castle itself stretch an extremely wide network of tunnels which revealed extremely useful during both the Napoleonic Wars and the Second War!
In Dover, all around Liverpool Terrace, Marine Parade and under Castle Cliff are to be found houses, once built as summer residences, some of which date back to the 17th century, but other buildings in town are from the same period!
There are many places of interest, not to forget:
- St. Edmund Church, where pilgrims on their way to Canterbury stopped and pray.
- St. Martin Le Grand, not far from where today’s Market Place stands.
Not to forget, the area has a certain number of castles open to tourists eager to know their secrets at Walzer, Deal and Dover, of course, whose museum still preserves witnesses from the bronze age.
Dover actually offers a wide range of possibilities to go shopping and many shop-chains and national stores have their representatives here.
But, both in-door and out-door activities can be enjoyed:tennis courts, golf links, swimming – pools, water skiing, wind surfing, canoeing, scuba diving and much more!
