Durham is a tiny cathedral city in Durham County, England. Durham, meaning ‘hill-island’ houses a populace of about 45,000 permanent residents. Home to the world-famous Norman Cathedral, it is a major cultural as well as tourist centre.
Set apart by a moderate climate, Durham has warm, humid summers and mild winters. However, the temperatures occasionally rise or drop to the extremes. Snowfall is rare and adequate rainfall is received in the region.
The city has a history which dates back to 2,000 BC. Durham was a major economic and political centre in the medieval times. Today, it has a developing economy based on agriculture, forestry, construction and finance.
