It was constructed in the 12th century by the Peverel family, which later in 1155, was attached to the property of the crown. The areas which attract maximum tourists are the spectacular views from the terrace of the range, the vaulted chambers, the Little Castle which has an elaborate fireplace, the wall paintings and the former riding manor.
