The Derby Museum and Art Gallery is situated in a building given to Derby by Michael Thomas Bass and displays the paintings of Joseph Wright. The museum also displays other collections such as geology, archaeology, military, natural history and a huge collection of porcelain from Derby since 1750 and its surrounding areas. The archaeology gallery has local artifacts from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages, 2 Egyptian mummies, a number of Anglo Saxon crosses and a sarcophagus.
