Beth Chatto Gardens
From 1960, the Beth Chatto Gardens construction began and an overgrown wasteland was converted to an informal garden that is in harmony with the countryside. In the gravel garden, one can view drought loving plants like santolina, lavandula, ballota, verbascums and kniphofias. One can view dramatic water gardens at a place where there was a soggy hollow in the past. In autumn, the landscape becomes green due to tall grasses that have ribbon-like leaves. There is a large tea rooms and dogs are not permitted in the park. It is possible to arrange coach parties by appointment. These gardens are at a distance of almost 8 miles from Clacton-on-Sea.
Bourne Mill
In 1591, this mill was initially constructed as a fishing lodge. In the 19th century, it was transformed to a mill for fulling (a step in manufacture of cloth) and flour milling. Tourists can view the waterwheel which is still working. This mill has limited parking and hence it is not suitable for coaches. In the building, dogs are not permitted with the exception of guide dogs. The distance from Clacton-on-Sea is about 12 Miles.
Sir Alfred Munnings Art Museum
Approximately 13 Miles from Clacton-on-Sea, one can find the Sir Alfred Munnings Art Museum. This place is renowned for equestrian and racehorse paintings. These were completed between 1898 and 1920 and are related to East Anglian rural life.
