Dereham lies in the English county of Norfolk and is also known as East Dereham.
The town covers an area of 21.51 km2 and has a population of 15,659 as per the 2001 census.
The town was recognized as a religious centre by Withburga, the daughter of a Saxon King. When the body of Saint Withburga was moved to another place, it was believed that a holy well in the town began to produce a spring.
This spring has medicinal properties and the Withburga Well, which contains this holy water, has become a major tourist attraction. There are numerous places in the town where one can stay, eat and shop.
The town has faced massive expansion in recent times and is now the 5th largest town in the county. A large number of housing areas have come up in the surrounding areas.
