Godmanchester can be described as a petite town as well as civil parish in ‘Huntingdonshire, Cambridgeshire, England’.
Godmanchester stands on river Great Ouse’s south bank, south of bigger town of ‘huntington’, on A14 Road.
Godmanchester had been chartered for the first time in the year 1212 by King john; even though it used to be known as a royal manor and market town for certain time-span. There has been archaeological evidence with regards to Celtic as well as the other habitation before establishment of a Mansio and key ‘Roman town’. Hence, one can infer that the region has possibly been constantly occupied for around 2000 years.
The ‘mansio’ has been made a mention of in the name of ‘Godmanchester’; which had been derived from ‘Godmundceaster’, i.e. an Anglo-Saxon Term; meaning a ‘town or ‘Roman Building’ linked with a person known as ‘Godmund’.
The population as of 2003 was reported to be 5500.
