Letchworth Garden City, which is commonly known as ‘Letchworth’, can be referred to as one of the towns located within ‘Hertfordshire, England’.
The name of the town has been taken from one amongst the 3 hamlets it surrounded. The other 2 were Norton and Willian. These three names had featured in ‘Domesday Book’. Quakers were the first ones to buy this land, with the objective of constructing a ‘Quaker Community’.
However, it did not take much time for them to discover that soil was chalky as well as of poor use in terms of agriculture. The credit of finding this city goes to Ebenzer Howard. This had happened in the year 1903. Letchworth holds the credit of being the 1st Garden city across the globe.
Letchworth Garden City can also be referred to as a place containing the biggest colonies of ‘black squirrels’. These species are an unusual example of ‘melanism’.
The population is around 33600.
