The Sainsbury Center for Visual Arts was built in 1978 and designed by the architect Norman Foster. The art gallery lies on the western side of the University campus, near the Yare River. The main building is on a slope and has a huge steel structure, cubical in shape with one side of the structure fully glazed. The museum has a collection of more than three hundred artworks and items which were donated in 1973 by Lady Lisa Sainsbury and Sir Robert.
