Hartlepool is a sea port that lies in the county of Durham in the north east of England.
.The town has a population of 90,290 people including West Hartlepool and Old Hartlepool.
The place derived its name from the ‘Hart Island’, which was because of the stags seen in the region. It was a busy market town and the official port of Durham in the past. In the nineteenth century it was an important industrialized region but this declined sharply after the Great Depression.
The economy of the town is now recovering with the development of housing and the completion of the new Marina.
The new Marina and the Middleton Grange shopping centre provide tourists with high class retail facilities. The town has a temperate climate which is mostly dry, windy and cold and rainfall is lower than the national average.
