Helmsley is a small market town which lies on the border of the North York Moors in Ryedale in England.
The town was popular in the 17th century as a weaving centre but now people visit it for its beautiful walks, parks, castle ruins and red roofed historic buildings which can be seen when approaching the town.
The town of Helmsley has a population of 1,570. The climate is temperate with cool summers and mild winters, however, weather conditions vary from day to day.
The winters can be windy and dry due to the anticyclones and westerly winds. Spring can be chilly and January is the coldest month.
The town is known for its Rievaulx Abbey which was founded by 12 monks as a mission centre for Scotland and the north of England.
