Hexham is a market town located to the south of the River Tyne in Northumberland, England. It is the administrative centre of the Tynedale district and houses about 12,000 people. The name of the city comes from the word ‘Hagustaldesham’ which means ‘the hedge-warden’s home’.
The climate in the region can be described as sunny and cool which is mainly on the drier side. Temperatures tend to rise or fall to extremes occasionally. Very little rain is received in this region, accompanied with light snowfall during winters.
Initially, a separate county, Hexham was included in Northumberland in 1571 and was famous for its leather industry. Today, the city is gradually developing with tourism, agriculture and the service sector being dominant factors.
