The Housesteads Fort and Museum is an amalgamation of various Roman forts, the most significant being the Vercovicium. The place also houses a fine example of a hospital from the Roman era, apart from the various other ancient relics.

Nearby the museum is the Walltown Crags which is an imposing structure offering magnificent views of the surroundings. Hexham Herbs is a picturesque garden which has an outstanding herb collection. The unique herbaceous plants, thymes and roses are the main highlights of the garden.
