Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport, previously known as RAF Speke and Speke Airport, is situated near the Mersey River about seven and a half miles from the centre of Liverpool city.
It is one of Europe’s fastest growing airports and handled more than five million passengers in 2007.
The airport began its flights in 1933 and was privatized in 1990.
The airport was named in honour of the founding member of the Beatles, John Lennon after 2002.
The airport handles both charter as well as scheduled airline flights with Flybe, Ryanair, Wizz Air, Thomas Cook Airlines, Onur Air, Thomsonfly and others.
The airport is easily accessible by car as well as bus.
The nearest railway station is the Liverpool South Parkway from where one can take regular bus shuttle services.
There are a number of restaurants, cafes and shops at the airport including duty free and tax free shops in the departure lounge.
