Alnwick Castle is an old fortress situated in a stunning landscape that dominates the entire market town of Alnwick. This is the second largest occupied castle in England and has been the home of the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland.
The castle has featured in a number of Harry Porter films. It has a number of glorious State Rooms furnished in Italian Renaissance style with paintings by Van Dyck, Titian and Canalettto, an exquisite china collection and antique furniture.
The castle shop has exclusive china, glass, textile and souvenirs along with children’s models, books and toys. There is a restaurant and a wine bar which is open for lunch and dinner.
Alnwick Gardens, which was started in 2002, is a contemporary garden with one of the largest tree houses and a water feature of its kind in the UK.
There are a number of theme gardens such as the ornamental garden, the rose garden, the woodland walk, the poison garden, the bamboo labyrinth, the serpent garden, the spiral garden and others.
