Ashington can be described as a town located in Wansbeck district, Northumberland, England.
Ashington was famous as a center of ‘coal mining’ industry. This town lies at an approximate distance of around 24 Km on the northern side of Newcastle; that too, off A189. Ashington’s southern side has been bordered by River Wansbeck. ‘North Sea’ coast at ‘Newbiggin-by-the-Sea’ stands at the distance of around 5 Km from town center.
Several inhabitants are known of having a ‘distinctive’ dialect and accent called ‘Pitmatic’. This thing differs from regional dialect called ‘Geordie’. Hence, the two dialects need not be mixed.
Ashington’s mining workers presented a ‘hooky mat’ to friends of theirs in Ashington, West Sussex. This mat has been on display in village hall right now.
The climate of Ashington is ‘cool temperate’. Summers seem to be drier in comparison with Britain’s west coast. However, they seem to be cooler as compared to southerly regions.
The population has been estimated to be around 27000.
