Belsay Castle is a fourteenth century tower house which was built to defend the owner from the low level warfare which existed in the region.
There is a fighting gallery on the roof of the castle which is equipped with angle turrets and machicolations which have French influences. A house which was built in the seventeenth century is attached to the castle.
Belsay Hall and Garden is a fourteenth century tower house which is surrounded by thirty acres of landscaped gardens. This property was the residence of the Middleton family but is now under the care of the English Heritage Trust.
Wallington is a Tudor house which was built on the site of a medieval castle. The house has an unusual collection of model soldiers, doll’s houses, kitchen utensils and other items. It also has a fine collection of ceramics and William Bell Scotts famous paintings of Northumberland.
The hundred acres of lawns have many lakes, woodland, an Edwardian conservatory, ornamental ponds, a walled garden and other features.
