A 13th century stone structure Ponteland Castle was built by William de Valence. The castel’s tower and basement were destroyed in 1388 in a Scottish raid and formed a part of Manorial building. The basement and first floor of the building were restored in 16th century by Mark Errington. The tower in 17th century was absorbed by a Jacobean manor house.
