Seaton Delaval Hall
Seaton Delaval Hall was designed in the year 1718 by Sir John Vanbrugh for ‘Admiral Delaval’. This design consists of a ‘corps de logis’ or center block, comprising of principal and state rooms, between 2 flanking wings. These wings have ‘center projection’ of 3 bays which have been crowned by ‘pediment’, either side with regards to which are seven bays of ‘sash windows’ over a ‘ground floor arcade’. These wings consist of stables on the eastern side, whereas ‘west wing’ goes on to house service and secondary accommodation.
Since completion on the part of this house in the year 1727, it experienced a series of unfortunate events. Neither patron nor architect lived for seeing its completion. Thereafter, it went on to pass through a number of heirs; that too, on intermittent basis.
