Altrincham is a market town which is situated within the Metropolitan Borough of Trafford in Greater Manchester in England. The town lies on a flat ground to the south of the river Mersey about 8 miles to the southwest of Manchester City Centre.
The population of Altrincham is 41,000.
Historically, this town was a part of Cheshire. In 1920, Altrincham was established as a market town, when most of the communities were based around agriculture than on trade. At present, the town is a commuter town because of its transport links, namely the Metrolink.
There is a strong middle class presence in the town and there has been steady increase in the Altrincham’s middle classes since the 19th century. This town is even the centre for sports and home to the Altrincham F.C and an Elite ice hockey club in Manchester.
Altrincham is one of the four major urban areas in Trafford and the other three areas are Sale, Urmston and Stretford. Altrincham area comprises the south part of Trafford.
