Tourist guide Blackburn

Blackburn can be described as a huge town within, Lancashire, North west, UK England.

Blackburn lies on the northern side of ‘West Pennine Moors’ on Ribble Valley’s southern edge; at the distance of 14.3 Km on the eastern side of Preston, and 34 Km on the north-northwestern side of Manchester. This town has been bordered by Darwen on the southern side, with which ‘unitary authority area of Blackburn with Darwen gets formed’. It should be noted that Blackburn serves as an administrative center over here.

Blackburn was known for textiles since mid-13th century; i.e. when wool that was produced on the local level used to be woven in the houses of people. In the fourteenth century, Flemish weavers went on to settle in this region. This helped in further development of the industry. An interesting fact is that spinning jenny’s inventor, i.e. James Hargreaves was none other than one of the weavers in Blackburn. This city was privileged enough to be a ‘boomtown’ of ‘Industrial Revolution’. The textile sector, however, declined in mid-20th century.

The population as per 2001 census was 105085.
