A market town, Kendal is a civil parish located in Cumbria’s South Lakeland district of England. Towards North at a distance of 39.5 miles near River Kent, is the town of Carlise. It was earlier a part of Westmorland. It is well known for a delicacy by the name of Kendal Mint Cake. It is one of the largest tourist destinations in Cumbria. The town is lined with local grey limestone buildings. The town is also known as the Auld Grey Town.
Apart from tourism the Kendal is also a producer of tobacco snuffs and pipe tobacco. After Carlise and Barrow, Kendal is the third largest community of Cumbria. The town boasts a population of 27,505 as per 2001 census.
The town is surrounded by hills and is located near the Lake District National Park. It is also called "The Gateway to The Lakes". Mostly Maritime Climate is found in Kendal. There are moderate temperature variations throughout the year.
