Leigh is situated in the Metropolitan Borough which is in the state of Greater Manchester of country England. In 2001, the city had a population of around 44,122. The name Leigh was discovered from an Old English word, lea, which means meadow or woodland clearing. Previously Leigh was a rich industrial town known in the Northwest region. Bolton, Warrington, Wigan and Manchester are the neighboring towns in Leigh. Leigh has developed recently in its quality of bus routes, new outside market, pedestrianisation and has started to reconstruct the management of the town center. The city became famous for its Lancashire cheese and dairy industry which is known as Leigh Toaster.
Being a conventional Lancashire town, this town centre has developed a lot as it has renewed many of its areas in recent years, which includes quality bus routes, pedestrian traffic, a town centre administration plan and a new outside market. The reason being the town contains a number of canals which are situated at the junction of Bridgewater to Liverpool so the people use canal boats for traveling.
