Parkgate is a village which is situated on the Wirral Peninsula in the part which remains in Cheshire. This village, Parkgate is in the North West of England. Parkgate is situated on the coastline of the River Dee and adjoins the 100 square kilometers of salt marsh. It is separated by sandstone which was formerly a sea wall. The village is within the borough of Ellesmere Port and Neston.
Previously, this village was an important port from the start of 18th century. Towards the end of the 18th century, this village was popular as a seaside resort with baths. This ended as the sands of the estuary got consumed with grass. So, without any beach or access to the sea, the village could manage only small subsistence from fishing.
After Second World War, Parkgate flourished as a highly desirable residential area. It became a conservation are in 1973. As per the 2001 census, Parkgate had a population of 3,702.
