The city of Trafford is the metropolitan borough city of Greater Manchester in England.
This metropolitan borough includes towns like Urmston, Stretford, Sale, Partington and Altrincham.
Some of these towns were boroughs and were merged into Trafford in 1974. Except for Urmston and Stretford, all the other towns were previously located in Cheshire. Now all of them belong to Greater Manchester.
The River Mersey runs through this borough and separates Trafford into two parts, north and south.
This borough has existed since Neolithic times. Experts have found evidence from the Roman era and even from the Bronze Age.
Trafford is economically a strong city. Most of its people belong to the middle classes and commute.
As per the 2006census, the population of the borough is about 211,800.
The borough and its surroundings being located in the North West of England have a maritime temperate climate. Winters are mild and summers are cool.
