Urmston is a town which is situated within the Metropolitan Borough of Trafford in England. The population of this town is 41,000. It lies about 6 miles to the southwest of Manchester City Centre, within the historic county boundaries of Lancashire. Urmston covers an area of around 4,799 acres.
Urmston has early medieval origins. This town was a small farming community until railways was introduced in 1873. The railway acted as a catalyst and transformed the town to a residence for the middle class. At present, the town is one of the main urban areas within Trafford and includes areas like Flixton and Davyhulme.
Urmston occupies an area of 7.5 square miles and is about 137 feet above the sea level at its highest point. The land is relatively flat and slopes gently from north to south.
