There are many parkland areas within Sheffield: Peace Gardens, which is laid with grassy lawns and beautiful fountains of different shapes and sizes; the Winter Gardens, a conservatory home to some exotic species of plants; and the Victorian-style Sheffield Botanical Gardens, located just outside the city.
The Tudor Square is the cultural and entertainment hub of the city. It is home to three theatres: the Lyceum theatre, distinguished by its grand arches; the Crucible Theatre, which apart from supporting the city’s theatre scene is also the venue of the World Snooker Championships; and the Library Theatre, which hosts many local productions.
The Peak District, criss-crossed with walking and cycling trails and dotted with picturesque villages and towns, is easily accessed from the city. Sheffield is the ideal base for exploring the Yorkshire Dales, a gentle countryside and dramatic moorlands.
