Lewes is a town located in the district of East Sussex of South – East England. It is one of the smallest towns in the county.
The town is located in the gap of South Downs through which the River Ouse flows. Other cities in the county like Hove and Brighton are situated around 10 miles from Lewes. On the eastern side of the town a vast chalk cliff has formed.
The cliff can be seen from any part of the town. Hence the town is also known as the Cliff. The southern area is called Southover. The Greenwich Meridian passes the west side of Lewes.
Like any other town and city in England, Lewes experiences unexpected rain. The rain arrives along with strong chilly winds. Hence, travellers are advised to carry warm clothes even during the summer season.
The city has already suffered from the flooding incidences in October 2000. However, the quantity of rain increases only during the intense rainy season.
