Camber Castle was built by Henry VIII on the harbour as a part of the defence to protect the coastal regions of England.

However, the silting of the harbour made the castle obsolete.

St. Mary’s Church, which is more than nine hundred years old, has the oldest church clock in the country which is still functioning and an eighteen feet pendulum.

At the top of the tower of the church one can get spectacular views of the countryside and the entire city.

Rye Castle Museum and the Ypres Tower is a private museum which was built as a fort and used as a private residence, a mortuary and a prison in the past.

There are displays of medieval pottery, smuggling memorabilia and ironwork in one part of the museum.

In the other part is an old fire engine, relics of the Cinque port such as ship models and uniforms, famed pottery and more.
