The Southampton Airport is situated at Eastleigh near Southampton and is the twentieth largest airport in the United Kingdom. The airport runway is said to have been built over the remains of an old Roman Villa. The airport is run and owned by the BAA has handled a passenger traffic of 1,965,686 passengers in the year 2007. The airport has a CAA Public Use Aerodrome license which allows flights for flying instructions as well as for public transport.
