Stonehenge is one of the mysterious places listed in UNESCO World Heritage Sites of the world. This pre- historical monument is situated in the Wiltshire County in England.

This is place is popular, as it is surrounded by various myths and mysteries. The monument consists of a number of vertically erected stones. Some of the stones rest on two vertically standing stones.

Though the stones are accumulated at the same place, they are believed to belong to different time periods. The earliest structure was the earth ditch and back that surrounds this monument.

This dates back to 3100 BC. The stones date back to 2200 BC. This Stonehenge was built in three phases. It is believed that the stones were used for worship or for giving sacrifices.

The special arrangement of the stones functions as the solar and lunar clock. The stones can be viewed closely after paying some nominal fees. This is one place worth visiting.
